September means Back to School

School routine is on!
Homework...
Still have time for a date with Dad
And fingernail painting with Mom
Look what we stumbled upon at our local school supply store!  2 Euro each!

This guy is studying for his bike license!
We took a family boat cruise on the canal as a family and enjoyed the funny entertainment.

Eva is a first grader!

Beginning first grade in Austria is a really big deal.  It is a rite of passage.  Kids attend Kindergarten (a mix of what people know in the States as preschool and Kindergarten) until after their sixth birthday, and then they become a big school kid.  So first our church made a big deal for the kids, even gave them a little gift.
Eva received this special beginning school cone (Schultüte) as a graduation gift from her Kindergarten.  It has the handprints of all of her Kindergarten classmates on it!  So we used it for her official school cone as well.  Here it is wrapped and packed and decked with all different colored ribbons for our eccentric girl.
First day of school pose!
First day of fourth grade for this guy
Nathanael was so encouraging of Eva and this monumental step for her.
Here we are waiting in front of the school.  The first day is just 50 minutes, so the parents go with the kids for this celebratory event.
This poster touched me.  (Our school has an emphasis on English with each class having one hour per day of English with a native speaker, thus the sign in English.)
Eva's friend Mario from Kindergarten is also in her class, so of course they chose to sit together!
Excitement and nerves
Meeting the teachers and assistants
(Eva actually had a day in June when the new students were invited to the school to meet the teachers and be in the class with the teachers and the fourth graders, so that was really helpful for easing first-day-jitters.)
The class posing with their school cones
On our way home and so excited to open her gifts
Excitement (and a bit of big brother jealousy)
A huge surprise egg is better shared.
